Second Day of Hack Reactor

I have reached the end of my second day at Hack Reactor, and I have to say that I am impressed. I am by no means a boot camp aficionado, but this is not my first rodeo.

The first aspect that stuck out on reflection was their staggered scheduling. The way that these two days have been divided up between code and lectures, intermingled, has been extremely effective for me. The time coding keeps things fresh and moving, while the lectures allow for a short break, allowing time to recharge and keep moving.

This division is representative of their philosophy as a whole, at least from what I’ve gathered thus far. The equal emphasis on technical prowess and social competency is key to thriving in the world today.

Most important is the emphasis on “autonomy,” at least insofar as it was defined by Marcus Philips: “confidence that you can find a solution.” Personally, this is the number one characteristic that I am seeking to develop, over the course of this program. I’ve heard it said many times that developers frequently struggle with imposter syndrome, and I can certainly relate to this. If I had to choose one thing to walk away with, this would be it. Armed with appropriate confidence, I think my road as a developer would be much smoother.
